BEALS - Archer Edwin Beals, youngest son of Albert Samuel and Mary Douglas Beals, was born near Russell, March 15, 1885, and went to be with his Lord on September 5, 1966.

His early years were spent on the farm south of Russell, and he was graduated from Russell high school in 1903.

In his early teens Archie accepted Christ as his personal saviour and later became a member of the Russell Baptist church of which his parents were charter members.

On May 17, 1906 he was united in marriage with Myrtle M. Kelsey, and to this union were born five children, two of whom, Marjorie Ruth. aged five, and an infant daughter, Mary Grace, preceded him in death. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother Bert, and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Clinton and Mrs. Mamie Price.

Left to mourn his passing are his beloved wife, a daughter Dorothy and husband Arthur Johnson; a son Albert and wife Bonna; a son Paul and wife Vivian; and five grandchildren: John Archer, Lois Ruth, Stephen Paul, Samuel Archer and Timothy Joel. Also bereaved are several nephews and nieces, other relatives and many friends.

During the first several years of his married life Archie was in partnership on the farm with his father. In 1917 he obeyed the call of God to prepare himself for the Christian ministry, and after a period of training at the Moody Bible Institute, he accepted a call as pastor in Polk City.

It was in 1922 that he received a call to pastor his home church in Russell where he served for nearly 25 years. In addition to his work in the home church he conducted an extensive Bible teaching ministry in surrounding communities. In his recent years he was very happy in giving out the work of God in several rural churches.

Throughout his faithful ministry of 45 years he was used of God in the salvation of many souls and in the establishment of believers in the faith.

Services were conducted at the Russell Baptist church on Wednesday, September 7 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. L. B. Deedrick officiating and the Rev. Glenn E. Saunder assisting. In charge of arrangements were the Miley Chapel in Chariton and Woodman Funeral home in Russell. Interment was at the Russell cemetery.
