William Harrison Williams "My Grandfather"
There are many stories about this Kentucky coal miner. He was certainly from the hills and lived his life in that fashion. He was friendly and kind to all he met unless you crossed him. He met his wife Mary and her parents would not sanction the marriage because they didn't like him, but grandma did so they concocted a plan... she got pregnant!!! First born was Ella, then followed Solomon, Trimble, George, Grace, Anna (my mother), and Uncle Jode.

Trimble lost his life at age 19 from a coal mine electrical accident.

Grandpa lost his life to throat cancer at age 62, most likely from the coal mines because he never smoked, drank alcohol or chewed.

Grandpa worked the mines from daybreak till sundown and when he came home he was tired, hungry and dirty. He would clean up, eat supper, then take care of whatever chores grandma had, then because it was dark out and no electricity they would go to bed. Well one night he lay down to sleep and a racket started in the kitchen, pots and pans banging and such. He hollered out maw stop that racket! Grandma was asleep and she jumped up wondering what he was hollering about. When he saw grandma beside him he said it must be those dang ghosts. Grandma was telling this story: she said "Will" got out of bed, went into the kitchen and yelled stop this racket! I've worked hard today and I need my sleep! He came back to bed and nary a sound came again that night. He was a good father and an even better grandfather.
