Ann Frances Marthe was born March 9, 1913 at Taylor to John V. Theresia Leier Marthe. At the age of 6 she moved with her family to East Fork Township near Esmond. She was raised & educated there. On June 18, 1934 she married Nicholas J. Wentz at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond. The couple made their home on a farm near Silva. He died Jan. 25, 1946. She then moved to Esmond, where she owned & operated Ann's Cafe until 1974.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church & its Christian Mothers Confraternity & ladies aid. She was a charter member of the Esmond VFW Auxiliary. She was a community booster, pinochle player & devoted New York Yankees fan. Her cafe had a reputation for excellent meals & pastries.
Survivors include a son & daughter-in-law, Ole & Carol Wentz of Billings, Mont.; 2 daughters & sons-in-law, Bernardine & Bernard Sullivan of Glasgow, Mont. & Bonnie & Nick Heisler of Sabin, Minn.; 5 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters & 2 brothers-in-law, Adeline Anderson of Esmond, Aurelia & Walt Walz & Hildegarde Garman of Kenmare & Bob Brown of West Fargo; & 2 sisters-in-law, Lena Marthe & Margaret Marthe of Esmond.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son, Martin Peter Wentz; 3 brothers, John, Dan & Ervin Marthe; & 3 sisters, Agnes Severson, Josephine Brown & infant Isabelle Marthe.
