Spanish Monarch. Born at Medino del Campo, the second son of Enrique III, King of Castilla y León and his queen, Juana of Peñafiel. In 1393, he married Eleanora de Albuquerque and with her had seven children including the future kings, Alfonso V of Aragon and Juan II of Aragon and Navarre. In 1406, with the death of his elder brother, Enrique III, Fernando became co-regent during the minority of his nephew, Juan II of Castile. He distinguished himself by his fair and prudent administration, earning the by-name 'the Just.' After his Uncle, Martin II of Sicily, ruler of Aragon, died without issue, he succeeded to the titles of Rey Fernando I de Aragón and Ferdinand I of Sicily in 1412. He died just four years later.
