Thomas Way was born about 1666, the son of George and Elizabeth Smith Way. Thomas' father emigrated to the U.S. on the ship Lyon in 1631.

Thomas' siblings were Elizabeth 1651, Joanna 1653, George 1655, Aliced 1658, Agnes 1660, Thomas 1666, and Mehitable 1670. Mehitable died in 1680.

Thomas married Ann Lester at New London, Connecticut in 1687. Ann was born 30 August 1670 at New London, daughter of St. Daniel and Hannah Fox Lester. She died in 1754 at East Haven.

Children of Ann and Thomas Way, all born in Connecticut:

Daniel 1688, Thomas 1690, Ebenezer 1693
Elizabeth 1695, John 1698, David 1700, May (son) 1702, James 1703, Hannah 1708 and Ann 1713. Ann died in 1726.

Thomas purchased from his mother on 2 July 1695 all of that part of the dwelling house where his late grandmother Johanna Smith lived and the garden spot and four apple trees. This had been given to Johanna's daughter, Elizabeth, to enjoy during her natural life and then to revert to her son, Thomas.

Thomas moved to Branford, Connecticut between 5 and 11 March 1717. In 1725, he moved to East Haven.

His will names his wife Anne and son James executors. James receives his house and land with wife allowed use of one third and daughter Hannah a room. Daniel receives all debts he owes his father. Other children receive money.
