Louisa was born in Sasbach am Briesach (now Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl) Germany; the Sauer's immigrated in 1857; Louisa could speak English but not read or write it.

On her birthday, November 25, 1901, Louisa married Peter Rohn at St. Matthew Evangelical Church. Rohn was a widower with several children of his own by his first wife Katharina Maria "Mary" Schaefer, who died in August 1899. He was born Dec 25, 1839, Stockheim, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany; died April 23, 1913, Louisville; and immigrated Oct 1860. He was a Union Army veteran and later worked as an expressman/teamster. According to his 1892 Passport Application, he stood 5' 3", had gray eyes, gray-ish hair, a mediocre forehead, round chin and face and a regular nose.
