SMITHSBURG - Eric Scott Barnes, 27, of 11800 St. Mary's Court, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Friday, July 17, 2009, at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Wednesday, June 2, 1982, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of Conway Stuart Barnes and Barbara Sue Warren Barnes of Smithsburg.
Eric was very active in Scouting for more than 10 years.
He graduated from Smithsburg High School in 2000, where he played lacrosse and football. He was employed with Potomac Construction. Eric's love of lacrosse continued as he was involved as a lacrosse official throughout the Tri-State area.
He was a loving and devoted father to his son, Caleb Jordan Barnes of Smithsburg, and is also survived by one brother, Brenton E. Barnes of Catonsville, Md.; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Phyllis Warren of Smithsburg; paternal grandmother, Joyce Barnes of Hagerstown; aunts and uncles, Lester and Jill Barnes of Longs, S.C., Jeff and Melissa Warren of Fairplay, Md., Bonnie and Ed Owens of Hagerstown, Linda and George Kline of Greencastle, Pa., Carol and Steve Ganley of Smithsburg, Debbie and Dave Eichelberger of Clear Spring, Md.; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Lester A. Barnes.
Services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with Pastor Gregg Meserole officiating.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 21.
Interment will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
