Artist and army officer. He was Ensign in the 48th Regiment from 1824 and served in New Zealand from 1846, where he assisted The New Zealand Company in the selection of land. He became superintendent of the Southern District in 1846 and deputy-assistant Quartermaster-General in New Zealand in 1847. He was made Commander of the Forces in New Zealand in 1848. While in New Zealand he produced many fine watercolour paintings of South Island Scenery. He left New Zealand in 1857 and was posted to India.

Eldest (and possibly only surviving) son of Maj.Gen. Sir Robert McCleverty, CB, and his wife Elizabeth née Maude.


Married Anne McGildowny Casement who died at Ootacamund, Madras, in 1868.
