Mrs. Leona Belle Burgett, Pioneer Resident Succumbs
Mrs. Leona Belle Burgett, pioneer Sweet Home resident and widow of the late Thomas Burgett, died early Friday morning at Lebanon General hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Burgett was born two miles southwest of Sweet Home, September 1, 1885, the daughter of James and Nancy Hamilton. She had lived in this city all of her life, with the exception of 10 years, which were spent in Idaho. She married Thomas Burgett February 6, 1902, who preceded her in death on June 18, 1947. Mrs. Burgett continued to reside in the family home on what is known as "The Ed Russell Place" until the time of her passing. The Burgett family once resided on Long Street, on the present site of the Roxy theatre and the Bank of Sweet Home.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. M. I. (Letha) Wood and one grandson, Eugene Wood, both of this city.
Elder Ivan Burnett conducted funeral services at the Howe-Huston chapel in Sweet Home Monday at 2 p.m. Interment was in Gilliland cemetery.
