Witcher came with his parents to Bradley County, Tennessee in 1836. He joined the Methodist Episocopal Church, South at 16 years old. He entered the Holston Conference in 1849, traveling here until 1858 when he was transferred to the Texas Conference. He remained in Texas for 9 years. In 1867 he was again transferred to the Tennessee Conference where he reamined for 19 years. In 1869 he married Mary J. Crismon. He returned to the Holston Conference and was employed on the Lookout Circuit in 1889. he died at Retro on the Cincinnati Railroad some 25 miles from Chattanooga on March 8, 1892. His wife and only son Marvin, a lad of 14 years old, were with him in his last hours.
