Helen Mae Spindler was born on December 7, 1919 in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. She was the seventh of eight children born to August Franklin and Katherine "Katie" (Miller) Spindler.

She grew up with her siblings in Fearing Township on The Spindler Family Farm. She attended local school and graduated from Marietta High School in 1938, where she was a "B" and "C" average student.

In High School she was a member of the G.A.A., Senior Boosters and Commercial Club. In her senior yearbook she said she was better known as "Spin", her besttin' sin was "snoring", that she was at school because it's "Better than feeding chickens", that her pet aversion was "Farm life", that her pet expression was "Oh, my gosh" and that her ambition was to "Be a manikin."

She married Arthur Ronald "Jake" Hamilton, son of Ernest Raymond and Cora Ethel (Hayes) Hamilton, on May 7, 1939 at the Garrett County Courthouse in Oakland, Garrett County, Maryland.

Together Helen and Arthur had two sons, Ronald William (b. 1944) and Gary Eugene (b. 1940).

After their marriage they lived in the Liberty Township area, where their sons attended the Marietta City School District. They moved to a two story yellow house just outside of Lowell, Ohio in 1956. Their sons would graduate from Fort Frye High School in nearby Beverly, Ohio.

She was a protestant by faith. In addition to being a wonderful mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, she was a housewife and also cleaned many homes in the area for a number of years. She will forever be remembered by those who knew her as being a beautiful and loving person.

She passed away on July 21, 1983 in Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia. She is buried at Greenlawn Cemetery in Lowell, Ohio. At the time of her death she was survived by her husband, two sons, four grandchildren, four sisters and one brother. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
