Lemuel Odell, one of the substantial farmers of Noble Township,and a representative citizen of Richland County. He claimed Indiana as the State of his nativity, his birth having occurred near Springville, Lawrence co.on March 26, 1825. His father Nehemiah was native of N.C. and was of Scotish-Irish descent. Lemuel was one of thirteen children. He was a country boy attending school in a log cabin. A meager education in farming gave his father the benefit of his services until he was 20yrs of age. He worked in a sawmill for three years and then moved to Indiana where he puchased a farm of forty acres in 1848. In 1851 he returned to Lawrence co. after having acquired the capitol through his industry and economy in the two previous years, until 1853.
