Services are Thursday for Mrs. Fairbanks
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the First Baptist Church here for Mrs. Violet Lavina Fairbanks, 91, who died December 19 at Golden Acres care home in Onaga. She had been a resident of the care home about two and one-half years.
The only daughter of John and Mary Elizabeth (Mate) Grossnickle, she was born October 5, 1886, on a farm south of Onaga.
She was married February 15, 1911, to Clarence A. Fairbanks in Topeka, and they lived on a farm west of the Vermillion river for five years, then moved to the present home on the east side of the Vermillion, south of Onaga. Mr. Fairbanks died April 9, 1954. Mrs. Fairbanks remained on the farm until June of 1975 when she suffered a broken hip and was hospitalized.
She was a member of the Needlecraft Club and a charter member of the Mutual Benefit Club, founded about 1911.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Sadie Marten and Mrs. Hazel Wyss, both of Onaga, Mrs. Rheva McKee of Blue Rapids, Mrs. Lucille Bell of Kansas City, and Mrs. Dorothy Seybold of Rye, Colo.; two sons, Lynn and Douglas Fairbanks, both of Onaga; five sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; a brother, Glenn Grossnickle of Onaga; 13 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
Burial will be in Onaga cemetery. She will lie in state at the Tessendorf Mortuary chapel until time for services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Onaga, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Duluth, or St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wheaton.
