Janice Houston-Daniel, 54, passed away at her home on Thursday, July 16, 2009, in Fort Worth.
Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 911 S. Davis Drive, Arlington. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Janice was born July 28, 1954, in San Angelo to John Thomas and Mamie Jo Houston. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1972 and then obtained her dental hygiene degree from Tarrant County College. Janice worked as a dental hygienist in the Arlington-Fort Worth area for over 30 years, spending the bulk of her career with Dr. Franco of Fort Worth.
Janice was an extremely gifted and passionate artist. She worked in several mediums, including water color, acrylic and pastel, but her collection of oil paintings was so unique that they were often sought out by friends and other acquaintances. Janice also had a history of using her two sisters' faces as "practice canvasses" to make them look awesome for a high school date. Nobody could put hair into a French twist like Janice!
Additionally, Janice's artistic talents included a passion for music as she was a gifted piano player. She loved to gather around the piano with family and friends and sing old songs or hymns.
She was, without question, an excellent gourmet cook and consummate hostess preparing elaborate meals for friends and family, especially on holidays. Janice hosted many a memorable bridal and baby shower for her three beautiful daughters and other relatives.
Her comedic talent was certainly one that her family, friends and patients loved about her. Her quick wit, infectious laugh, and countless funny stories and jokes endeared her to all who had the privilege of hearing her wacky, off-the-wall, sense of humor. A party or family gathering was not complete unless Janice was there in fine form with funny remarks to spice up the gathering.
Janice was a warm, giving and loving daughter, mother, sister and "Grammy."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Daniel.
Survivors: Daughters, Tracy Gleeson, Leah Tyson and Brittany Lee; grandchildren, Hannah Hutto, Aidan Lee, Cade and McKenna Gleeson; mother, Mamie Joe Houston; siblings, Elise Donohoe, Tom Houston III and Johanna Houston; and nieces and nephews, Jennifer Keller, Matthew Kennedy, and John and Scott Houston.
