Ralph Boelman, 60, formerly of Hayward, Wis., died unexpectedly at his home in Davenport, Fla., on Sunday, July 12, 2009.

He was born on March 31, 1949, to Aeiko and Donna (DuFour) Boelman in Mason City, Iowa. He later moved to Taopi, where he lived many years of his childhood. He graduated from Adams High School in 1967.

He entered the Army following high school, served in Vietnam and later joined the Army National Guard as a Recruiter. He served in Pierre, S.D., and Minnesota for 24 years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He was honored with the highest recruiting distinction possible when he was selected as the Secretary of the Army National Guard Recruiter of the Year in 1989. Ralph enlisted a total of 538 soldiers during his 11-year career as a recruiter and was entered into the Recruiting and Retention Hall of Fame prior to his retirement in 2002.

In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing and fishing, and was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings.

Ralph is survived by twin daughters, Rebecca (Jason) Reis of Saint Croix Falls, Wis., and Sara Boelman of Isanti, Minn.; twin brother, Roger (Gail) Boelman of Stewartville; brother, Tony (Angie) Boelman of LaPorte, Minn.; half brother, Dennis (Sandy) Hennigar of Bruneau, Idaho; half sister, Sandra Storey of Minnesota; three grandchildren, Carter and Wyatt Reis of Saint Croix Falls, and LaRayne Mastrian of Isanti; one stepgranddaughter, Harlie Reis; two nieces, April (Daryl) Felt of Rochester and Lacey Boelman of Austin; and three nephews, Corey (Kerri) Boelman of Spring Valley, Kyle and Jesse Boelman of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a half sister.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, in the Chapel at Camp Ripley in Little Falls, Minn., at 1 p.m. Interment immediately following the service at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls at 2 p.m.
