Wm. M. White Is Taken By Death

Widely Known Resident Dies This Morning After Months Illness

IN BUSINESS HERE FOR MANY YEARS

Following an illness of about a month, William Morehead White 83, one of New Castles respected residents died at 7:20 a. m.
today in Jamestown Memorial Hospital.

In the death of Mr. White, New Castle looses a citizen whose life was one of service to his church, his family and his community. The ensuing years brought some of the infirmities of age, but never impaired his mentality nor his spirit. Somehow he seemed to have the gift of eternal youth.

He was born November 17, 1853 in Pittsburgh the son of Hugh Luther White and Margaret Morehead White. On September 16, 1885 he was married to Miss Minnie McBride who proceeded him in death February 17, 1931.

Near the turn of the century he came to New Castle with his cousin, the late Robert A. McKinney, and together they started in the wholesale notion business on November 1, 1900 on North Mill Street under the name of White and McKinney. Later the business was incorporated as the New Castle Notion company, of which Mr. White was president for a number of years. For twenty years he has been retired from active business.

In Mr. White's program of life there was always roof for civic or religious duties. He believed in the institutions of his city and state and no worthy cause found him wanting in support. In his church activities he was an active member of the Central Presbyterian Church and in the work of Shennango Presbytery.

As a young man he joined the Washington Infantry of Pittsburgh and maintained his membership throughout his life.

He is survived by the following son and daughters. Attorney Robert McKinney White, Mrs. Carl C. Hall, Mrs. Welty O. Rugh, Mrs. P. L. Rowland, Miss Helen E. White all of New Castle, and Mrs. Frank B. Van Tilburg of Ashland, O. Five grandsons survive him also, and a brother H. L. White of Sheridan Avenue of New Castle.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, May 15 at 3:30 o'clock from the residence of his son Attorney Robert McKinney White 320 Hazelcroft avenue, with Dr. C. B. Wingerd, pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church in charge. Interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
