Georgetown Native And Veteran, 82, Dies
Albert Thomson Was Descendant of Colonial Settlers Here and Last of His Family
Albert Thomson, a descendant of colonial settlers of old Georgetown and a distinguished veteran of the civil war, aged eighty-two years, died at the home of P.H. Marshall, 3363 18th Street Northwest, Monday. The funeral will be held from Mr. Marshall’s home this afternoon at 3 o’clock. The interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Georgetown, where a number of generations of the Thomsons are buried.

Mr. Thomson was a native of Georgetown. He was born there June 7, 1841, the son of George Thomson, for many years chief clerk of the War Department, and Estelle Joncherez, a member of one of the oldest and best known families of Georgetown. He was educated in the schools of Georgetown. At the outbreak of the Civil War he volunteered for service with the Union Army with District of Columbia troops and was stationed at headquarters of the Army of the Potomac, under General McClellan, from March 1862 to November 1863, then being transferred to the headquarters of the Army of the Cumberland, under General Thomas, from November 1863 to April 1865. At the close of the Civil War he entered the War Department, where he served in the Record Pension Bureau in the Adjutant General’s Office. Mr. Thomson was a bachelor, the last of his family. He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews of this city. He was not a member of any organization.
