George Overton Chance was the son of Joseph Sylvestor "Joe" Chance and his wife Ada Edward Sale Chance. George was born on January 9, 1880, probably in Hookerville, Burleson County, Texas. When he was 19, George married 14-year-old Claudie D. Wimberley. The couple never had any children.

George and Claudie lived in Eddy County, New Mexico, in 1910; in Lea County, New Mexico, in 1920; and in Tom Green County, Texas, in 1930. It was in San Angleo, Tom Green County, that the couple spent the remainder of their lives. George became a contractor, and Claudie owned and managed a chicken hatchery. They enjoyed living in San Angelo. Claudie's sister Velma and two brothers Walter and Herbert lived nearby.

George died in 1954; and Claudie, in 1967. They were both buried in Calvary Cemetery in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas.
