James Eugene Goins, 59, an Anchorage resident, died Aug. 13 at Deep Creek. A visitation was held at Witzleben Family Funeral Homes Bragaw Chapel. A funeral service was at the Bragaw Chapel with the Rev. Norman Jones of Bethel Chapel presiding.
Mr. Goins was born July 3, 1929, in Chicago, Ill. He had lived in Alaska for the past 18 years, and also had lived in Alaska from 1959 to 1963 when he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. After his retirement from the U.S. Air Force in 1970, he worked as a civilian employee heavy equipment operator at Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry and traveling.
He leaves his wife, May, of Anchorage; his mother, Madge Orr, of Fresno, Calif.; his daughters, Jill Alford, of San Antonio, Texas, Sue Goins, of Reinbeck, Iowa, and Linda Anderson, of Soldotna; his sons, Gary, of Wasilla, and Alan, of Anchorage; his brothers, Bill, of Madison, Wis., Bob, of Woodstock, Ill., and Merlyn, of Fresno, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren. Burial with full military honors was at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, 2330 E. 42nd Ave., Anchorage 99508.
