Services for Arline Patnaude Dam, a supervisor with Alascom, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. The Rev. John McClung of the Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 58 p.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will also be held at the First Baptist Church in Derry, N.H. on Jan. 18. Mrs. Dam, 59, died Jan. 8 at Humana HospitalAlaska. An Alaska resident since 1958, she was born in Londonderry, N.H., Oct. 16, 1927. She was a graduate of Pinkerton Acadamy of Derry Village, N.H. Mrs. Dam started her career with the New England Telephone Company, and was active in the telephone business since 1945. During the Alaska earthquake in 1964 while on duty as the assistant chief operator she was cited for heroism by the secretary of the Air Force and awarded the Gold Medal for Valor. She was credited with preventing panic and injury to 26 telephone operators and supervisors and restoring vital defense communications circuits for the Air Force and Anchorage toll lines. The medal was presented by Maj. Gen. Kenneth Berquist, who said she was the first woman to receive the medal since World War II. She was active in the Calvary Baptist church on Government Hill, where she lived for the past 25 years. Mrs. Dam leaves her husband, William; four sons, William Jr. of Rabbit Creek, Jeffrey of Eagle River, Mark in Granada, Spain, and Kipling of Anchorage; her mother, Mrs. Evelyn Patnaude Keith of Derry, N.H.; five brothers, Henry Patnaude of Crossville, Tenn., Robert and Scott Patnaude of Derry, N.H., and Gerald Patnaude of Chester, N.H.; three sisters, Alice Forrest of Culpepper, Va., Billie Jean Bernier of Londonderry, N.H. and Phylis McPhee of Salem, N.H.; four grandsons and two granddaughters. Burial will be in the Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 726 E. 9th, Anchorage, 99501.
