Johnnie Keith Jordan, 84, of Carthage, MS died Friday, July 17, 2009, at Leake Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Jordan was born December 14, 1924 to Charles Lovett Jordan and Ina May Jordan of Decatur, MS.

He attended East Central Junior College and was a graduate of Mississippi State University with a BS degree in Agricultural Economics. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the merchant marines.

Mr. Jordan was married to Kathryn Whitehead of Decatur, MS from 1946 until her death in 1987.

Mr. Jordan was a supervisor for the Veterans Farm Program in Newton County before moving to Gulfport, MS to work for Ralston Purina. In 1958, he came to Carthage as general manager of Arbor Acre Farms. He retired from the poultry business in 1995. Mr. Jordan served terms as director, vice chairman, chairman, and treasurer of the Mississippi Poultry Improvement Association, Inc. He was also state vice-president of Southeastern Poultry and Egg Association. Mr. Jordan was bestowed the highest honor given by the MS poultry business when he was inducted into the Mississippi Poultry Industry's Hall of Fame in 1979. A portrait of Jordan hangs in the MSU Poultry Science Building in Starkville.

Mr. Jordan was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage for fifty years where he had served on the board of trustees and as a deacon. His hobbies included bass fishing, hunting, and watching MSU sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, C. L. "Sonny" Jordan, Jr. and Raymond W. Jordan.

He is survived by his wife, Millie Howell Jordan; sister, Frances Jordan Overstreet of DeKalb; son, Johnnie K. Jordan, Jr. and wife, Dinah of Starkville and their son, Johnnie K. "Jay" Jordan, III of Gulfport; a daughter, Janet Jordan Hawkins and husband, Bob of Clinton, and their children, Kathryn Robinson and husband, Mark of Clinton, Holly Cieslikowski and husband, Craig of Houston, TX, Bonnie Lynn Coleman and husband, Daniel of Bentonia, and son, Robert M. Hawkins, Jr. of Madison; a daughter, Lynn Jordan Pence and husband, Kevin of Birmingham, AL and their children, Lauren Leigh and Patrick Jordan Pence; and a step-daughter, Sheila Sanders and husband, Phil of Birmingham, AL and their children, Jordan, Steven and John Sanders. Mr. Jordan also leaves four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church in Carthage today at 3:00 p.m. with burial in Leake Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be "Jay" Jordan, Patrick Jordan Pence, Robert M. Hawkins, Jr., Daniel Coleman, and Mark Robinson, Steven Sanders and John Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers are members of his Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Carthage.
