Obituary of John Sylvester Cornwell


John Sylvester Cornwell was born September 8, 1866, and departed this life March 26, 1938, age 71 years, 6 months and 18 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Laura Wells in 1887. To this union were born eight children, three of whom preceded him in death.

He leaves five children, namely: Ross Cornwell of Winterrowd; Hall Cornwell of Decatur; Claude and Ernest Cornwell of Wheeler and Mrs. Nora Myers of Newton. Fourteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one brother, Ezra Cornwell of Newton and other relatives and friends survive.

Mr. Cornwell has been in poor health for five years but bore his suffering and affliction with patience to the end.

He accepted Christ as his savior in 1883, taking his membership with the Latona church under the ministry of Rev. George M. Lollar.

Funeral services were held at the Latona Christian church Monday morning with Rev. George Birch of Dieterich officiating. Burial was in Kedron cemetery.
