Walter T Ford was the oldest son born to Owen Ford and Mary (Harten) Ford in Smyrna, DE, November 7, 1862, where the family resided on Howard Street. He moved to Philadelphia, where about 1887 he married his landlady, 27-year-old widow Mary (Cael) Watson, who was taking in boarders to support herself and her three children. The couple moved to south Wilmington, DE where Mr. Ford worked as a carpenter, and later to Chester County, PA as they raised seven more children. He died from a concussion sustained in a fall from a ladder in his home. He was predeceased by his father Owen Ford, and by two children who died young. He was survived by his mother Mary (Harden) Ford, his wife Mary (Cael) Ford, sons Walter Harry Ford and wife Frieda, Willard Franklin Ford and wife Margaret; daughters Florence Marie Bell and husband Thomas, Mable Ellen Ford, and Rebecca Cael Ford; stepson Joseph Thomas Watson and wife Annie, stepdaughters Mary (Watson) Hedley and husband Henry, and Della Frances (Watson) Guthrie and husband Thomas; and one granddaughter, Frances Watson Guthrie.

Walter Ford was originally buried at the Saint James Episcopal Church Cemetery in Newport, DE. When the church decided it wanted to expand into this section of the cemetery, his daughter Mable (Ford) Taylor had his remains relocated to Gracelawn Cemetery, on December 4, 1948.
