Lorenzo J. Hall was the third of five children born to Selden and Emily A. (Smith) Hall on February 3, 1836, in Brighton, Lorain County, Ohio. He married Herredia Griggs on November 25, 1862, and together they had at least one child: Horace E. He died on December 29, 1866 at the age of 30 years old. He was buried in the same cemetery as his parents and grandparents with a marker that gave the dates of 1836-1865.
