Mr. Gurley Lee ‘Pop' Barrier
MOUNT PLEASANT -Mr. Gurley Lee "Pop" Barrier, 92, resident of Carebridge Assisted Living, formerly of 1110 Concord Road, Albemarle, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Northeast Medical Center, Concord.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Gordon Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Marvin Goodnight, burial will follow at Mount Olive Lutheran Church Cemetery.
The Barrier family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon prior to the funeral service.
Mr. Barrier, known for his ability to recall history and his sense of humor, was born June 16, 1912, in Cabarrus County, son of the late William B. Barrier and Sarah Shoe Barrier. He was a retired farmer and worked for 15 years at Harris Teeter in Albemarle. He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church. In the past year, he enjoyed trips to Morrow Mountain counting deer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Russell Parker Barrier; brothers, Flowe M. Barrier, Harry D. Barrier, George N. Barrier and Paul J. Barrier; sisters, Annie Barrier Allmon and Vernie Barrier Henley.
He is survived by nieces, Judy Hubbard, Doris Hilton, Barbara Fink and Kathy Goodnight; and nephews, Bob and Bill Barrier and Norman Allmon.
