Father of the Big Bang

Georges Lemaitre was a Belgian astronomer who formulated the modern big bang theory wich holds that the universe began in a huge explosion of a small atom. After Worl War I he entered the seminary and became a priest in 1923. At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology he became acquainted with the studies of Edwin Hubble and Harlow Shapley on the expanding universe. In the year 1927 being professor at the University of Louvain ( Belgium ) he proposed his big-bang theory wich became one of the leading theories of modern cosmology.
