Leslie C. "Sonny" Duncan, Jr. of Festus, Missouri, was born on Wednesday, February 6, 1946 in Ironton, Missouri and departed this life on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 having reached the age of sixty-one years, eleven months and thirty days.
"Sonny" was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Radentz on May 4, 1973 in Sikeston, Missouri.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jackie Duncan of Festus, Missouri; three daughters, Terri Lynn Jenkins and husband Clark of Farmington, Missouri, Tonya Leigh Slinkerd and Adam Schultz of Farmington, Missouri, Krista Leslie Aders and husband, Corey of Farmington, Missouri; one son, Trace Slinkerd and wife, Elke of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; mother, Myrtle (Sloss) Duncan of Potosi, Missouri; one brother, Kenneth Duncan and wife, Joni of Jefferson City, Missouri; six grandchildren, Laynie, Kelly, Drew, Cole, Kyeler and Courtney; one great granddaughter, Kylie; nieces and nephews, Cassie, Jill, Janice, Jeanne, Jill, Stephanie, Diane, Sydney, Bill and Stephen; also surviving are other relatives and many friends. "Sonny" was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Clyde Duncan, Sr.
"Sonny" was a 1964 Potosi High School graduate, a 1967 graduate from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri and graduated with his master from Southeast Missouri State University in 1973. He continued to work towards his doctorate in education from St. Louis University.
"Sonny" was a principal for Potosi R-3 School District, a superintendent for Jefferson R-7 School District, Windsor School District and Greenville R-2. "Sonny" retired on July 1, 1997 but soon went back to work as the principal for St. Paul Lutheran School in 1998. He also taught graduate classes at Missouri Baptist College and Central Methodist University.
"Sonny" served in the United States Army in 1969. While in the Army, he played the saxophone in the Army band. "Sonny" was honorably discharged on June 1, 1975.
"Sonny" was a member of the Potosi Masonic Lodge, the Elks Lodge in Festus-Crystal City, MO Lodge #1721. He was also a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Arnold, Missouri.
"Sonny" enjoyed traveling, playing golf, following politics and listening to music. He loved his family and the time they spent together, especially with his grandchildren. "Sonny" was a remarkable person.
Visitation was held from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM Thursday, February 7, 2008 at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri with a Masonic Memorial Service at 6:00 PM and an Elks Memorial Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation was also held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday, February 8, 2008 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Farmington, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Farmington, Missouri at 11:00 AM Friday, February 8, 2008 with Reverend James King and Scott Pastschke officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: John Haselhorst, Duane Holder, Jeff Jensen, Bill Giessing, Mick Hart, Jerry Noble, Dr. Pepe Verzola, L.R. (Duke) Duchatschek, Roger Yount and Carl Phillips.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Farmington, Missouri. "Sonny" received full military honors consisting of a firing party, taps, flag folding and presentation.
