Mrs. Grace Schalk Dies in Hospital
Mrs. Grace Schalk, 65, retired cook, died in North Big Horn hospital Saturday morning after a lingering illness.
She was born Sept. 26, 1900 at Ferron, Utah, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Dalton. She married Robert E. Schalk Apr. 4, 1943 in Billings. He died in March, 1962, Mrs. Schalk was a member of the LDS church.
Survivors include four sons, Orson Gifford of Deaver, Jess and Andy Gifford of Lovell and Rex Gifford of Bozeman, Mont.; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Brems and Mrs. Mable Nicholls of Cowley and Mrs. Lois Schatz of Lovell; four brothers, Fred Keele and Lovell, Jack Keele of Worland and Mack and Melvin Dalton of Monticello, Utah; four sisters, Mrs. Phenelda Gifford of Deaver, Mrs. Chasta Keele of Cheyenne, Mrs. Margaret Alswager of Racine, Wisc. and Mrs. Lola Osendorf of Parker, Colo.; 29 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Big Horn Stake Center with Bishop Harris Asay officiating.
Burial was in the Lovell Cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Schalk were held Tuesday, Jan 11, at 10:00 a.m. in the LDS chapel, with Bishop Harris Asay officiating. Mrs. Schalk passed away at the North Big Horn County Hospital Jan. 8 after a long illness.
Prelude music was played by Connie Taylor, she also accompanied the Singing Mothers who sang "Rock of Ages." The invocation was by Herald Bassett and the obituary was read by Fernith Adolph. A trio, Effie Mayes, Iris Bassett and Ruth Bischoff sang "Whispering Hope," accompanied by Norma Cutler and the sermon was delivered by Jake Adolph. The singing Mothers sang "My Peace, I Leave with You." and Reed Tippetts gave the benediction. Burial was in the Lovell Cemetery, with Mrs. Schalk's grandsons as pallbearers L Don Parker, Delbert Parker, Gene Schatz, Steve Nicholls, Ed Gifford, and Dick Gifford.
