He was born January 14, 1943, in Hampton, Virginia, the only son of Haden Bledsoe Anderson and the late Hazel Howard Anderson.
Howard was a devout Christian who loved life and was enthusiastic in all he did. He loved flying and especially enjoyed introducing the joy of flying to children. He played many instruments and often led the Acoustic Jams in Scottsville.
He was a graduate of the University of Virginia, a member of Jefferson Park Baptist Church, the Virginia Society of CPA's and AICPA, and in the past had served on the National Peer Review Committee.
Surviving family members include his sweetheart and beloved wife of 44 years, Joan Newton Anderson; his father Haden B. Anderson; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melissa Haden Anderson of Scottsville and Melanie (Anderson) and Douglas Cogar of Greenville, Virginia; two grandsons, Dustin Harris and Davis Cogar; numerous nieces and nephews including his very special niece, Scarlett Mason; aunts and uncles, a sister-in-law, Gloria "Butch" Poe of Scottsville; and his beloved dog Piper.
A funeral service was conducted Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville, Virginia, by the Reverend Doctor Jeffrey T. Riddle and the Reverend Alan H. Acree.
Burial followed at Scottsville Cemetery.
