Ruth E. Shultz, 92, a resident of the Winterset Care Center South, Winterset, Iowa, and formerly of Hedrick, died Friday, July 3, 2009, at the care center. She was born October 5, 1916, in Hedrick, the daughter of Clarence G. and Cora Mowrey Miller. On June 2, 1936, she was united in marriage to Chalmer Shultz at LaPlata, Missouri, and he died December 13, 2005. Early in her adult life, Ruth worked at the old Wimmers Department Store in Sigourney; later at the Hayesville Bank for a time; then stayed home to raise and care for her family and helped on the farm. She was a member of the Hedrick Christian Church, and had recently been attending the First Baptist Church in Winterset; Order of the Eastern Star, Ollie Chapter, and served as Worthy Matron for several years and in the Worthy Matron's Club; and enjoyed their neighborhood club and card club. Ruth enjoyed quilting and craftwork, crocheting, and helping at various church functions. She had been active in the Hayesville Community Church and various community activities. She also enjoyed wintering in Florida for many winters. She moved to Winterset eight years ago to be close to family. Ruth's family includes three sons and their wives: Ronald and Lois Shultz of Lakeland, Florida; Duane and Shirley Shultz of Minnetonka, Minnesota; and Marvin and Barbara Shultz of Winterset. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Edith Waters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at 10:30 A.M., in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Pastor Mike Carlson officiating. Burial will be in the Brooks Cemetery near Hedrick. Visitation will begin at the funeral chapel on Tuesday after 12:00 noon, and the family will be present Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Hedrick Christian Church.
