Joseph Reuille arrived in America in 1847. His three oldest children (first marriage) were born in France. The fourth child, Eugenia, was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1849. By 1851 he was living in the Besancon area (east of New Haven, Indiana)since his son Henry was born there. His wife Francoise died in 1851 and is believed to be buried in the Besancon area.

Catherine's second husband, Joseph Reuille, was Catholic and is buried in the old St. Louis Besancon cemetery. Catherine remained a Lutheran through her life and is buried in Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Joseph's first wife died in 1851 and left him with five children under the age of eight years old (another of his children had died in infancy. Catherine became stepmother to those children plus her six children from her first marriage and then together they had six more children.
