Pvt. Hazen was 43 when he enlisted on 25 March 1864. He was killed near Good Hope Church, Dallas, Georgia. [In part from FAG Memorial No. 26736444; in part from "The Hazen Family in America", by Tracy Elliot Hazen, p. 305]

Monroe Hazen enlisted in Co. F, 7th Regt., Ohio Vol. Inf., and was a brave soldier in that famous regiment. He was killed in a night engagement and buried on the field. Mrs. Hazen was a intensely patriotic woman; a member of the Disciple Church. He and Maria Eaton were married at Mentor, Lake Co., Ohio, 4 Nov. 1846. [From T. E. Hazen, pp. 305-6.]

His father was Andrew Hazen, b. at Norwich, Conn., 22 May 1764, died at Munson, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1836. His mother was Andrew's third wife, Sally Hamblin, who died at Munson, 1854, daughter of Barnabas and Mary (Bassettt) Hamblin. I have not found Memorials for either Andrew or Sally.

Roswell was the first child, of four, of Monroe and Maria Eaton. The second was Viroka Jerusha (Hazen) Smith, FAG 92526906. The third was Willett Eugene Hazen, FAG 88854566 (which shows his name, erroneously, as William E Hazen; people changed their names willy-nilly before the days of Social Security). The fourth was Samuel Shattuck Hazen, FAG 88854565.
