Son of Conrad and Sarah (Wolfe) Rader
The Rader family is prolific. It is said by a member of this family that he was descendants of Henry Rader and wife who located on a farm near Van Buren, OH in 1832, now number 1,000. This Henry Rader was honered by many namesakes. At one time a few years ago six men named Henry Rader recieved their mail at the McComb post office.
These men were variously designated, given different cogomens by way of identification. The name was shortened to Hank and hence; Arcadia Hank, from his having married an Arcadian girl; One-arm Hank, this one member of the Hancock county commissioners, having lost an arm in the Civil War; Seneca Hank, having lived for a time in Seneca County; Blue Jay Hank. Henry bought 160 acres in Sec 13 in Allen twp (1850) between Co Rd 109 and Co Rd 108. I-75 now runs thru the center of the farm. The first house was built of logs, later they built a nice frame house.
Henry was among the first members of the primitave Baptist church in Van Buren, OH. Meetings were held in the Henry Rader home until the church building was built. The church was still in use in 1978 with 12 members ( there are only membership records) After the Bectel graveyard was started east of Van Buren, the trustees of Allen Twp. had bodies removed to that cemetery. But the members of the Rader family were taken up by their own kin and re-intered in the Thomas cemetery near Portage Chapel church in Hancock Co., OH. The Rader name was also spellled Roeder, Reader, Reder, Reid
