He was the son of Nancy M. (Parmley) and William Bertram (1865-1937). He married a widow, Leta Pearl (Upchurch) Dickens, on January 3, 1946. She was the daughter of Margaret (Davis) and J. B. Upchurch.

In his early years Cletus was known as Cletus Eugene or Eugene Cletus but as an adult he went by Cletus W. Bertram. In her book, KENTUCKY KIN OF WAYNE COUNTY, KENTUCKY, Lois Kennedy Robbins listed him as Cletus Winfrey Bertram.

Cletus Bertram, age 79, of the Lyons Addition, passed away Monday, June 22nd at the VA Hospital in Lexington.

He was born November 10, 1907 in Clinton County, the son of William and Nancy Parmley Bertram, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Leta Dickens Upchurch; one son, Cletus Mickey Bertram of Lexington; two stepchildren, Pat Dickens Rose and William Curtis Dickens; one sister, Pearl Fairchild of Monticello; and six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a score of nieces and nephews and many friends who mourn his passing.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
