Lt. Lloyd Lee Hemphill of Joplin was one of 28 men, 24 of them pilots that was killed in a night time crash of a transport plane near Atkinson, Nebraska while being ferried from Bruning, Nebraska airfield to Pierre, South Dakota.
He died tragically in August and Sandy wasn't born until November. Sadly, he never got to see his baby daughter, and Sandy never knew him.

Her Mother then later married Mitch Reeves, a soldier at Camp Crowder, Neosho, Missouri.
He took Sandra as his own and raised her and was the 'Dad' she knew and loved.

For a time they lived in Joplin, Missouri then in the mid 1950's moved to Gulfport, Mississippi where Mitch was employed as a salesman at the Western Auto store in the late 50's and early 60's and when he passed away he was selling used cars.

When a young girl, Sandy took tap dance lessons and attended school in Gulfport.
As a teenager she loved beach parties with friends and going to Keesler Air Force Base to dances. She met a young serviceman stationed at Keesler AFB named Charles 'Chuck' Wilson from Kansas City, MO. and together they had a son, but never were married. He returned to Kansas City and they only once were ever in contact again.

She married Ronald Moore in 1964 and moved to San Jose, California. He adopted her son and gave him the name Ronald Lynn 'Ron' Moore.
Ronnie and Sandy together had a daughter, Kristy. They later moved to Brandon, Florida and that's where her children were raised.

When her marriage ended, she moved back to the Gulfport/Biloxi area, the place she always considered home and also where her mother was living. She was employed in apartment management and later worked for one of the title loan offices in Biloxi. After her mother died, she still continued to live there until her own death.

Sandy always loved the coast and sitting on the beach with friends drinking coffee and visiting, watching the seagulls and listening to the ocean.
