Theresa Muriel (Jones) Allison, age 94, of Gallipolis, died Wednesday morning July 15, 2009 at Holzer Senior Care Center.
Muriel was born at Patriot, Ohio on May 30, 1915 to the late Edward T. and Dovie (Carter) Jones. Muriel had two sisters, Margaret Jones Russell and Eleanor Jones Mills, both of Gallipolis, who preceded her in death.
Muriel graduated from Cadmus High School in 1932 and earned a teaching degree from Rio Grande College in 1934.
She married John J. Allison on December 10, 1934 and he preceded her on May 14, 2008. Their marriage lasted over 73 years and produced one son, John J. Allison II in 1954 who resides of Columbus.
Mrs. Allison taught 17 years in the Gallia County School system from 1934 until 1942 in a one room school. After World War II, she resumed teaching in the fall of 1946 until 1954. After their son's birth, Mrs. Allison was a homemaker and managed their rental apartments from 1960 until her death.
She was a member of Patriot Methodist Church, the Gallipolis Garden Club, The Gallia County Retired Teachers Association, and Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She also served as a trustee of the Tyn Rhos Cemetery Association.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday July 18, 2009 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Bob Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the Tyn Rhos Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. till time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Muriel's memory to the charity of your choice.
