BROOK
William E. "Bill" Brook, 76 years old, of Antioch, Illinois passed away Monday, June 22, 1992 at his home after an extended illness.
He was born September 4, 1915 at home in Antioch the son of the late J. Ernest and Gertrude (Smart) Brook, pioneer residents and founders of the State Bank of Antioch. Bill graduated from Antioch High School in 1933 and from Beloit College in 1937 where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. On May 24, 1941 he married Janet Riess in River Forest, Illinois. He was a lifelong member of St. Ignatius Church in Antioch and a former member of the vestry of the church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post #748 of Antioch. He retired as president of the State Bank of Antioch in 1986 where he had been affiliated since the 1930's. He was a member of the Lake County Bankers Assoc., the Republican of Lake County where he was awarded the Bob Milton Award, past president of the Antioch Township Republican Club and was honored with the Elephant Award, former member of and past president of the Antioch Community High school Board of Education and member of the lake County School Board of Education. Member of the Sequoit Masonic Lodge #827 A.F.& A.M., the Lake Region Shrine club and the Medinah Temple of the Shrine, member of the Loyal Order Lodge #525 of Antioch. He was a member and past president of the Antioch Lions Club and recently honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow, member and past president of the Antioch Rotary Club and honored as a Paul Harris Fellow, honorary member of the of the Antioch Fire Department, life sponsor and very active member of Duck's Unlimited where he was recently honored for his contributions. Member and past president of the Antioch Chamber of Commerce and Industry, honored as St. Peters V.I.P. for 1971, co-chairman of the Civil War Centennial committee, the U.S. Bicentennial and this years Antioch Centennial Committee to which he contributed until his death, one of the founding members of the Lakes Region Historical Society, the Northern Illinois Conservation Club and Muskies Inc. Bill was also supportive of other organizations and affiliations. Survivors include his wife, Janet; and 1 daughter Ainsley (Robert) Wonderling of Lake Villa, Illinois. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Suraya. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 25, 1992 at the Strang Funeral Home, 1055 Main ST. (Rt. 83) Antioch with the Rev. Vincent Eckholm, Rector of St. Ignatius Episcopal church of Antioch officiating. Following these services burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Antioch. Friends may call at the funeral home 2 until pm on Wednesday, June 24, 1992 Following these services. Those desiring may make contributions to the Lakes Region Historical Society, the American Cancer Society, The Antioch Rescue Squad or St. Ignatius Episcopal Church, in his memory. A Memorial funeral Mass will be also celebrated at St. Ignatius Episcopal Church, 977 Main St., Antioch at 11:00 am Friday June 26, 1992.
