John A. Prochaska, Sr., died at St. Joseph's Hospital, Concordia, at the age of 84 years, 3 months, and 8 days.

He was born September 23, 1883, in a dugout on his parents homestead in Ottawa County. His parents were Wencel J. and Anna Kouba Prochaska.

Being the oldest of the children, he helped his father farm until November 1, 1905, when he was united in marriage to Mary Ziegler. They lived on the same farm in Eureka Township, Mitchell County, for almost sixty years, as long as their health allowed them. To this union five children were born.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Mary, November 26, 1966 infant daughter, his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Alma), Boucek, of Glasco, and three sons, John Jr., of Simipson, Henry, of Glasco, and Marvin of Simpson; fourteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and fifty nephews and nieces; one sister, Mary Pesha; four brothers, Frank, of Glasco, Will, of Topeka, Albert, of Minneapolis, and Fred, of Over-land Park; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Joe Ziegler and Mrs. Joe Prochaska.

John was a farmer and stockman. In his young manhood he belonged to the Oddfellow and Rebecca lodges at Glasco. He and his wife helped organize Z.C.B.J. Lodge in their community and he served as treasurer three years and as president for over fifty years. He was school district clerk for twenty-two years, chairman of the cemetery board of directors, fifty years, and clerk and treasurer of Eureka Township forty years.

John and his loving wife celebrated their fifieth wedding anniversary at the Bohemian Hall, November 1, 1955. Their sixtieth and sixty-first anniversaries were spent at the Lewis Nursing Home at Beloit, Kansas.

John was a kind husband and a dutiful father, always willing to help where help was needed. His kind disposition will always be missed in this community.

Funeral services were by the Dean Funeral Home in Glasco, Sunday Dec. 24, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gordon Tasker officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Severence furnished the music.

Pall bearers were Ivan Prochaska, Don Prochaska, Dale Prochaska, Marvin Dean Prochaska, Richard Prochaska, and Roger Boucek.

Interment was in the Bohimian National Cemetery.
