ANDERS MAGNUS SWENSON and his wife, Sophia, born Hallberg, has put in a lot of work, not only on the cotton plantations in New Sweden, but also in the spiritual field. They are members of the Lutheran Congregation in New Sweden since they came to Texas, and Swenson has served as deacon in the church for nineteen years and as Sunday school leader for eighteen years. We can imagine what this work has meant for future generations. During those hard years, Mrs. Swenson worked hard, provided lodging for pastors, tirelessly kept vigil at sick- and death-beds, and took many heavy steps which appeared so easy for her, all these things were parts of the good things that only the Swedish pioneers could do. This family has also, like so many of the first Swedish families, given a large number of well brought-up children, who are all doing well to the Swedish communities in Texas.
Anders Magnus Swenson was born in Bredaryd parish, Småland, in 1848, where his father, Sven Johnson, was a farmer. He immigrated to the United States and came to Fort Scott, Kansas, in 1869. For the first five years, he worked for the railroad in Missouri and Texas. He came to Sherman, Texas, in 1873 and later to Columbus and San Marcos,where he stopped working for the railroad. In 1874, he married Sophia Hallberg in Cameron, Texas. She was born on the island of Oroust in Tegneby parish, Halland, and she immigrated to the United States and Sedalia, Missouri, in 1870. There she married her childhood sweetheart, John Romhart. Her marriage was short, because husband soon died.
They had a daughter, Julia. In her marriage to A. M. Swenson, she had the following children: Anna, born in 1874, Amanda, 1875, John, 1877, Bertha, 1878, Didrik, 1881, Elin, 1883, Emelia, 1887, and Florence, 1888.
The Swenson family have lived in New Sweden since 1878 on the farm they bought. For one reason or another, Mrs. Swenson joined the Swedish Methodist Congregation in Manda in 1895, but the author of these notes still considers her one of his best friends.

Mrs. A.M. Swenson, mother of O.D. Swenson of Stamford, died at Bertram, Texas, Wednesday of last week. Deceased was 95 years of age when she passed away. Mr. and Mrs. O.D. Swenson and their son John M. and Mrs. H.E. Olson went to the funeral which occurred at Bertram.
