Nettie was a daughter of Darius Smith Hartman and Eliza Ann Robinson, who came from Ontario, Canada, settling in St. Clair County, Michigan, in the 1880's. She married Henry Holland 22 April 1899 in Marine City, Michigan. She was the mother of six sons:

Melvin, who worked for the United States Postal Service
Charles, Marine City, Michigan, Chief of Police
Robert, an insurance agent
Leroy, a plant manager
Norval, an Episcopal priest
Clayton, Postmaster of Marine City, Michigan

Nettie and her husband Henry lived on Market Street on the St. Clair River near the Marine City swimming beach. At the time of her death Nettie was the oldest living member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Marine City, Michigan.
