Mattie Lee was born in Indian Territory Oklahoma to Joseph Montival Cates and Emily Jane Dalton. Mattie Lee married Howard J Gholston Nov 14, 1910 in Washington Oklahoma at the age of 19. Mattie received her nursing degree through Shannon Hospital as a LVN in 1956. Mattie had 6 children total. Noma Beryl, Emily Jo, Rowena (Nora Enna) whom died at 5 days old, J.A. "Dolph" , Howard Donald and Billie Carol.
