Mrs. Edith Elizabeth Benthal, 85, of Caruthersville, died May 2 in Cape Girardeau. Born July 3, 1901, in Halls, Tenn., she was the daughter of Robert Lee and Alda Bert Thurmond Cousins. She attended schools in Halls and was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by four sons, Kirk Edward Benthal of Caruthersville, Burvis Benthal Warren, Mich., Dalmas Benthal of West Helena, Ark. and Gene Benthal of Cape Girardeau; Four daughters, Mrs. Luvene Jarboe of Caruthersville, Mrs. Edith Mondell Shipes of Lake Charles, La., Mrs. Clarice Miller of Vancover, Wash., and Mrs. Rythia Meyer of Columbia; Twenty-five grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services were May 5 at 2 p.m. at H.S. Smith Funeral Home chapel in Caruthersville, Jimmy Colvett officiating, with burial in Maple Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Perry McDonald, Bob Jones, Bill Boulton, Ben Malone, Kenneth Crawford and Don Prost.
