Rilda Norton was born Nov. 8, 1889 in Pima, Ariz., the daughter of Orletta Lovisa Owen and Henry David Norton. She had five brothers and two sisters, all of whom preceded her in death except one brother, Alonzo Norton of Murray, Utah, who visited her a short time ago.
At the age of four, she and her family moved from Pima to Mt. Carmel, Utah.
At the age of thirteen she moved with her family to Lovell, where she lived and grew to womanhood. She married Charles Abbot Durfee in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City, April 8, 1908. To this union seven children were born, five girls and two boys. Her son, Weldon, Preceded her in death at the age of five. Her husband preceded her in death, March 12, 1954. With the exception of short periods of living in Idaho and Utah, Charles and Rilda and family made their home on a farm near Lovell. At the time of her husbands' death, she moved to Lovell to be near her daughters.
She was a member of the LDS church and worked many years in the Primary and MIA and was a Relief Society visiting teacher, making her visits faithfully until her health would no longer permit.
She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Wanda Johnson, Mrs. Dewey Cockrell (Edna), Mrs. Willwood Griffin (Twila) , Mrs. Franklin Beddes (Eva), all of Lovell, Mrs. Lloyd Cahill (Afton), of Powell and one son Arden N. Durfee of Littleton, Colo., twenty-one grandchildren (one preceding her in death) and two great grandchildren.
