Mr. Despain was reared and educated in Lovell and Cowley, Wyoming, graduating from the Big Horn Academy in Cowley. He attended Utah State Agricultural College and had lived in Phoenix, Arizona, LaPorte, Colorado, Orem, Utah, and Fielding, Utah. He had been a farmer and employed as a chemist for Great Western Sugar Company in Lovell, Wyoming.
As an active member in the LDS Church, he had fulfilled a mission to the Eastern States and had served as temple coordinator for the High Priest Quorum and held many other positions during his life.
Surviving are five daughters and five sons and their spouses, Joyce & Melvin Lemmon, Mackay, Ida., Lee & Carolyn Despain, Yakima, Wash., Elna & the late Paul Petersen, Riverton, Wyo., Donna & the late Colvin Tanner, Provo, Bill & Myrna Despain, Laramie, Wyo., Merrill & Iris Despain, Mapleton, Marian & Ed Lee, Fielding, Margaret & Dennis Pickering, Ogden, John & Sandra Despain, Lyman, Wyo., and Allen & Jeanne Despain, Windsor, Colo.; 56 grandchildren; 107 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bert Eugene, Irvin Dale, Daniel Gordon, and David Wayne. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Quayle, grandchildren, Emily, Perry, David, Benjamin, and Ronald.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 23 2:00 p.m. at the Fielding Stake Center, 4375 W. 15600 N. Friends may call Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 N. 100 E., and Thursday, 12:30-1:45 p.m. at the church.
A family prayer service will be held at Haskell Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m., Friday. Burial will follow at the Lovell Cemetery.
