Alpharetta, Ga. - Nancy Sloan Batson, of Alpharetta, Ga., died Wednesday, August 9, 2006.
She was born in Spartanburg County S.C., and graduated from North Greenville College and Carson-Newman College. She taught in the Spartanburg School district for many years and was a leader in helping the community through the period of school integration.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 55 years, the Rev. J. Ray Batson; three daughters, Jennie Weeks, Rosanne Patton, and Donna Creech; a brother, Robert C. Sloan of the Holly Springs Community, Inman, SC; and nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Beth Wilkerson.
Visitation will be 12 to 12:45 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2006, at Fernwood Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. P. Randall Wright and the Rev. Lloyd Batson. The family will also receive friends following the service at the Church. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Inman, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fernwood Baptist Church, 200 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
