Patient Mother Passes Away After a Long Illness
Eliza Ann Horrocks Was Lifelong Worker in the L.D.S. Church
Thursday morning at 3:20 o'clock Mrs. Eliza Ann Horrocks, wife of Bishop Roger Horrocks, quietly passed to the great beyond at her home in Neola, after an illness which has lasted nearly three years, during most of this time she has suffered severely, and the past two months she has been confined to her bed. The best doctors in the Basin and of the state have done all in their power to restore her health, but all in vain.
The deceased was born February 15, 1878 in Farmington, Utah, the daughter of Henry and Mary Ann Moon. She moved to Woodland with her parents as a child. When she grew to womanhood she was married to Roger Horrocks in the Salt Lake temple, December 4, 1896 by President J.R. Windsor. They lived in Woodland until after the birth of their second child and then moved to Jensen, Utah, where they remained until the opening of the reservation. They then located a homestead in the Neola district where they resided until Roger Horrocks was called as Bishop of the Hayden ward where they stayed until 1920 and then moved to their farm near Neola where they are still living.
Mrs. Horrocks has always been an active worker in the church, being secretary of the Sunday school from the time she was a young girl until they moved from Woodland. She served in the presidency of the Relief Society and primary organizations in Hayden. She had a kind disposition and was well loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband and the following sons and daughters: Walter, Victor, Levell, Theron, Florence, Mrs. Mary Gerber, Reva, Sarah, James, Ray and Eliza who preceeded her in death, also her mother, Mrs. Mary White and the following brothers and sisters: William, Heber and Nephi Moon, Mrs. Amanda Duncan and Mrs. Florence Van Tassell and several half-brothers and sisters and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Neola ward house with Bishop L.E. Allred presiding, and the ward choir furnishing the music. The speakers were President B.O. Colton, Ira A. Pace, President E. Lambert and Joseph Lambert. The Pall bearers were all nephews. Large crowds of friends and relatives were present to pay their last respects to the deceased. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Interment was in the Hayden Cemetery
