Born September 1 1953 in Des Moines IA he was the son of Donald Maurice and Phyllis Ann (McFadden) Hampton. He was preceded in death by his father on May 8 2004 and his grandparents.
Surviving are his mother, Phyllis Hampton of Excelsior Springs MO; daughter, Kim Wetzel of Excelsior Springs; 3 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Cate Hampton of Excelsior Springs, Donita Spurgeon and husband Jim of Jacksonville TX, Carole Thorn and husband Jay of Liberty MO and Sherri Chandra and husband Ram of Lexington MO; brother, Keith Hampton of Santa Rosa CA; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and extended family. He will be missed by his friends, family and co-workers.
Steven was a graduate of Excelsior Springs High School with the Class of 1971. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years. He entered truck driving school and worked for various employers. He was working for T & M Stone Quarries in Aldrich at the time his health failed. Mr. Hampton was a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, camping, Nascar racing, motorcycles and was known for giving a home to dogs who needed a home.
Funeral: July 8 2009 2pm, Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
Burial: with military honors, Pisgah Cemetery
Visitation: Wednesday 1-2pm at the funeral home.
The family has suggested memorials to Pisgah Baptist Church.
