Viola Hammond Hunsaker ST. GEORGE - Viola Hammond Hunsaker, 90, passed away September 24, 2005, at BeeHive Homes on Tonaquint Drive in St. George.

She was born July 2, 1915, in Rigby, Idaho to Milton Hammond and Aroetta Hale, the ninth of ten children.

She married Rex Hunsaker, June 6, 1939, in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Viola was raised in Idaho and Utah by her mother. She obtained a Bachelors degree in Physical Education from Utah State University where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and voted as the All Campus Coed. She received her Masters degree in Counseling from San Diego State University. Viola lived most of her married life in Salem, Klamath Falls, Lakeview and Portland, Oregon where she taught school (PE) and served as a guidance counselor. She spent her later years in Pleasanton, California and St. George, Utah. Viola was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in various callings. She had a strong testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ. She had a sweet spirit and was loved by all. Viola was a talented artist, and also designed and made beautiful quilts, many of which won awards. She was particularly pleased by winning the Grand Prize at the Northwest Quilters quilt show at Portland State University.

She is survived by her: son, Floyd (Mary Jo), of Boring, Oregon; daughter, Margene Eyre (Gordon), of St. George, Utah; son, Kent (Jody), of Salem, Oregon; son, Bob, of Monroe, Washington; and daughter, Cheryl Gant (Doug), of Lincoln, California.

She has 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren, all living.

She was proceeded in death by her: husband, Rex Hunsaker, who died in 1994; six brothers, Ronald, Glen, Merrill, Frank, Floyd, and Roy; and three sisters, Gladys, Sarah, and Ruth. The family wishes to thank the BeeHive home for their loving care of Viola during this last month. Funeral services will be at the Lincoln Memorial Park, Portland, Oregon.
