Jody Sanford

Jody Sanford, 429 Lansbrook, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001. She was 52.

The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Northeast Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Larry Nigh, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home.

Born Dec. 12, 1948, in Memphis, Tenn., she was the daughter of Seibert H. and Mary Jane Angus Haley. As her father was a Baptist minister, the family lived in several small towns in Arkansas.

Jody met Tom Sanford while the two were attending Oklahoma State University, and the couple were married Aug. 23, 1969, at First Baptist Church in Tulsa. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in English. The couple lived in Tulsa until 1978 when Tom accepted a position with First National Bank in Ponca City. In August of 1983, Jody began working for Conoco and, at the time of her death, was a royalty check clerk.

She was an active member of Northeast Baptist Church where she taught the children's church and Team Kids. Jody was also an active member of the Kiwanis Club and had been elected president on Oct. 1, 2001, and the Xi Delta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. In earlier years, she had been a member of the Pilot's Club.

Surviving are her husband, Tom, of the home; a son, Kelley Sanford of Ponca City; three daughters, Julie Sanford of Dallas, and Cheryl and Stacey Sanford, both of Ponca City; five grandchildren, Andrea, BeaJay Sanford, Camille Sanford, Kyrah Pollard, and Shaliyah Sanford; her mother, Mary Jane Haley of Fayetteville, Ark.; and sister, Mary Ann Haley, also of Fayetteville.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Casket bearers will be Chuck Rager, Troy Lewis, Don Long, Jerry Winkle, Don Crawford and Ray Shaffer. Honorary bearers will be members of the Kiwanis Club and Xi Delta Sorority.

Memorials may be made to Northeast Baptist Church, 2200 N. Pecan Rd., Ponca City, Okla. 74601.

The family will be at the home, 429 Lansbrook.
