Madras resident Clarence Lester "Les" Bryan died Jan. 31, 2005, at East Cascade Assisted Living Center at the age of 91.
Mr. Bryan was born Dec. 16, 1913, in Arnold, Neb., to parents Richard and Ellenore (Longfellow) Bryan. His family moved to a farm east of Arnold, Neb., in his early childhood. He attended Pleasant Hill School and graduated from Arnold High School in 1926.
After high school, he attended barber school in Portland, then owned and operated the OK Barber Shop in Madras for many years. On May 8, 1982, he married Norma Shafer in Corvallis.
Mr. Bryan was a member of the United Methodist Church in Madras, and the Madras Elks Lodge No. 2017.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Bryan of Madras; sister-in-law, Thelma Bryan of Cupertino, Calif.; Nieces and their husbands, Beverly and Stan Pearson of Kimball, Neb., Janice and Bill Flynn of San Jose, Calif., and Bette and David Loomis of Saratoga, Calif.; nephews and their wives, Lynn and Beth Rimpley of Thornton, Colo., Dick and Patience Duvall of Portland, and Jim and Karen Duvall of Portland. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Lillian Rose (Vye) Bryan, whom he married on May 3, 1940; three brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service was held Feb. 4, at the United Methodist Church in Madras, with arrangements under the direction of Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home of Madras. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Mountain View Hospice, in care of Mountain View Hospital.
